Oops.

As I was driving round I saw Phil's number several times at the start/finish line. It's perhaps worth reminding ourselves what the flag signals are that they show there, I have to admit that I always have to stop and think about them because we see them so rarely. Remember that it's:

  • Black with an orange blob and your number: you're being warned of a mechanical problem, come to the pits on the next lap
  • Black/white diagonal with your number: your driving is suspect, don't do it again!
  • Black with your number: you've been a very naughty boy/girl, come to the pits and report to the Clerk of the Course.

I think that's right...

I think we see all the other flags pretty frequently (except red ones, of course) apart from the white one for slow vehicles being on the circuit which are pretty rare.

There were a few of us wincing in the grandstand everytime another car came up behind Phil. It looked like the world's fastest guilletine.

How the offending under tray managed to avoid becoming the worlds largest death star is a mystery, I think I will be buying a bag of that remaining fastner that held on so well.... I'm sure my Phoenix could do with a few !!

Slightly off subject, I would just like to say a quick thanks to Al Boulton and all the other RGB'ers I met on Sunday. Your advice, tips and encouragement has been very motivating, I will now be in a self imposed exile in the garage until the Phoenix is ready to go !

Once the car is up and running I'm going to get up to racing speed with SEMSEC at Lydden, but don't count out a late season RGB or Birket appearance !

I will probably pop up to say hi at your next Brands outing

Thanks again

Simon

Actually no mystery, the other corner of the undertray is held in place by a large bolt and a plate that also secures the rear tow eye to the chassis, and it's also safety wired. Still, apologies to those who didn't know this and got a fright!

Austen,

Is it OK if I pinch a couple of those photos to illustrate my not-a-blog race report on my website? Due credit will of course be given, in which case is 'Austen's mate Dan' the proper person to give credit to, or should I be a bit more specific about the individual involved? ;)

Cheers.

Thanks Austen & Dan, the picasa ones are fine for my purposes. Given he's doing me a favour, I think I'll refer to Dan Sayles rather than the Gimp... ;)
