2010

Snetterton - March 14th: I think i heard one or 2 mild suggestions for alternative nominees but by far the loudest voices were to recognise Matt Green for his contribution to the weekend ....... a brilliant debut in his Spire, to set spectacularly good class B times in qualifying as well as in the race ... but against all the odds he proudly demonstrated his famous core skills and blew it all up ... literally ..... finishing both with 2 blown up engines. Bob looks threatened before the first particles of dust have even started to settle around the newly engraved pewter spoon in his trophy cabinet.

When I find the person who undid that suspension bolt ...

In my own defence I did complete the RGB race afterwards without incident and take home an intact and functioning car. It would be ironic to receive the coveted spoon for what was a more successful weekend than most of last seasons' events!!!

I think there are two candidates

1) Derek jones - for managing to knacker his engine before he could drive it in anger in RGB (after two faultless years in the service of Neil C-B)

2) Geoff Mason - After two years of meticulous preparation, testing, and generally talking about participating in RGB, Geoff managed a hurculean 1.5 laps before his car clapped out on him. Also the lucky bugger managed to win a tyre draw at his first attempt (something I have never managed in 4 seasons.... )

If it was anyone else whose suspension loosened itself and had to have their exhaust repacked and then reweded after it split in 2, then bob would have a candidate, but as he said, it was actually a very succesful weekend for him.

I do think geoff fully deserves it for what equates to 1 year of prep per 1 mile of racing! At that rate he'll never actually need to use the tyre voucher!

1 year of prep? get real! more like 3 years!
After last year Bob's problems at Mallory were all a bit limp really! Only minor welding and no fibre glass work involved!

I think Geoff should win it every meeting until he finishes a race!

Thank you boys, I'll stash a couple of extra beers in the motorhome for Brands :D

It's a tough decision but thinking it through as if I were in the driving seat at the time I'd personally have been more embarrassed to have to hold my hand up on the grid as if to say "please sir, could I go home now?". I wonder what the marshals were thinking - "Has he got cold feet?", "is he worried he'll miss his tea?" ...

Brands and Cadwell Nominations - Falling Down on the Job

Postby ColinChapman » Mon Jul 12, 2010 11:21 pm

OOPs. Forgot to solicit nominations at Cadwell. I think we may have also missed the June Brands nominations also .. .so please feel free to nominate below for both mtgs.

In the spirit of humility and to create a very easy benchmark to beat, I offer myself up for uncool behaviour by spinning in both races in almost the same place .. .at Gooseneck avoiding Andy G's rear end and about 100 yds upstream exiting Chris Curve while trying to pin back Al by using the grass on the outside for extra grip. The Marshals at Gooseneck are convinced I was driving a blue and yellow spinning top.

cheers
Colin

After offering an easy benchmark to beat at Cadwell, with no one owning up to anything, I end up getting unfairly branded a twerp at Pembrey for some exaggerated stories about loose jubilee clips (when it was actually hyper-active pink coolant) in the first session and then fancy lingerie shoved down my (carb)throat in qualifying. Fortunately the first race got much better when Phil gave me a big kiss at Hackets to make me feel better. I felt so giddy with pleasure that I came over all of a spin.
