2010 Drive of the Day Awards

2010 Drive of the Day Awards

Postby ColinChapman » Wed Mar 17, 2010 12:24 am

Yet another batch of our prestigious DoD awards to be handed out in 2010 to recognise heroic sportsmanship, incredible driving standards or anything else good in the eyes of the judges.

For the newcomers, this award is made at each race weekend and the winners are selected by our honourable title sponsor, Mr Bates one weekend, and the Marshalls at a specific (secret) post on the next race weekend ... and so it alternates all year.

The first award of 2010 was to Lee Baverstock on his debut drive in RGB ... not only for surviving a start line stall but then piloting himself brilliantly to a class B podium at his first attempt.

And getting himself a point for fastest lap into the bargain. He was a full second and half faster than me on the same lap. I was obviously being careful...

Hyper empathetic Marshalls at the Esses decided in their wisdom to award me Driver of the Day at Mallory .... I think the real reason was as a consolation for letting Al get back past going into the last lap ..... b****r !

Multiple Drivers of the Days at Brands with Derek and Duncan getting a joint award for Saturday's ding dong which I managed to watch from the Paddock Hill beach .... and Matt Green getting Sunday's for staying super cool under immense pressure to secure his maiden class wins, fatest laps etc .. great stuff!

Nominations for last weekend came from the Marshals at Paddock.

Saturday went to Paul Rogers for his uber cool recovery from a generous demonstration to the rest of us that it really was raining.

Sunday went to Judy for her thrusty driving and I seem to remember a personal best lap time during a battle with Ben. :D

Cadwell's winners of the coveted stickers were Neil Palmer on Saturday for a stunning drive in his first RGB round in the re-bodied Striker and following it up with an Allcomers victory. Not a bad way to get back into things. Then Doug Carter on Sunday for finishing the race despite very dodgy wishbones. Feel free to embellish.

Pembrey's winners were nominated by the marshals at the Track Crossing and I guess they must have been admirers of drivers from that famous East Anglian school of motoring with Paul and Derek locking up the awards for Saturday and Sunday respectively. No stickers though .. must do better!
