Upcoming RTC meeting

Upcoming RTC meeting

Postby timhoverd » Mon Feb 01, 2010 2:55 pm

All,

The first RTC* of the new season is coming up on Feb 25th. I shall be attending on behalf of us lot.

Are there any issues that we want to raise at the first meeting? I had wondered about getting my oar in early on the CAT issue but I'm not sure about looking under that particular stone.

Tim

*RTC is the 750 Motor Club's Race Technical Committee which discusses, err, technical issues. There's a rep from each formula and a collection of others. It takes place monthly and I'm intending to attend as many as I can this year. I'll post things like the minutes and so on here.

It won't be a nice stone to look under, but got to be worth getting it in the minutes from the off, then at least it maybe discussed before a CAT fails and gets reported back in the next meeting!

Can you ask how they will test for them, as I have heard from a scrutineer that they have the means to test emissions - I can't see this as being accurate whether you have a cat fitted or not

Tim

I would keep this on the agenda.

I am not sure if there are any specific regs that would underpin a testing regime. So as things are then I can't see how much more can be done (to test cats are installed) than last year .. i.e. not a lot .. but maybe a eyeball test.

However, if we let sleeping dogs lie and then if a tight testing regime comes in, then I guess on last year's evidence we are going to see more and more expensive engine problems.

So given we have worked closely with Robin and Keith on this, and having followed this path we now have MSA suggested expert advice saying it is not a viable solution, I think we keep it on the agenda with a brief update based on Steve's collated data and the info from these suppliers (Al's feedback from show, which we should try and get in writing).

Steve - any advice?

Tim,
Re CATS - it would make sense to have the ‘expert opinion’ of the MSA nominated supplier recorded in the RTC minutes, just in case this topic does come back onto the agenda.

Were cats discussed at the RTC?

Jim Slade at Eurocats (http://www.eurocats.co.uk) has been very helpful sorting out this...

...and has had involvement in working on an alternative motorsport cat solution for the US. It is not a 'traditional' catalyst so it might be prudent to involve the MSA & the club before anyone takes the plunge!

Cheers

I did mention that it's still rumbling along, but nothing more than that was discussed. To be honest, at least 80% of me thinks we should all fit a cat slice and then stick our heads in the sand, rather than stirring the wasps' nest up more than we have to.

Tim and I both attended the RTC last week. The only other topic really was a potential change in RTC structure which is being discussed by the board .. more to come when/if it firms up.
